Welcome to my blog. I hope you find plenty of inspiration here. Nothing too fancy, no great skills required, just lots of cards, gifts and perhaps the odd bit of shopping.

My blog contains lots of links to freebies. Without sounding like "mother" can I ask you to leave a kind comment to the generous givers of such fabulous artwork. I know of at least a couple of artists who are feeling a bit unloved at the moment. Thanks. X

Aren't you glad i got rid of that awful snowman, lol.

50th Birthday Card.

How are we all today then, all done and dusted?  I've completely finished with the shopping , everything wrapped and ready to go. The ham is simmering on the stove, my little balti dishes are wafting Christmas spice everywhere. I'm just taking a little break from blitzing the flat. I don't know why because it will look like a bomb has hit it half way through Christmas morning anyway, lol.
I had an order for a birthday card, such a pleasant change from all the Christmas stuff i've been churning out. The chocolate factory is now closed, lol.
I love this stamp because it lends itself to a bit of paperpiecing, and she can have a new frock every time i stamp her. It is by Art Impressions Not the least expensive at nearly £15 but i've used it loads. Finished with a few flowers and some leaves with my X Cut punch. The brads in the flower centers are papermania.
Time to carry on with the chores now as i'm working tomorrow, woe betide Speedy if he messes it up while i'm out. Only working until 3 0'clock, then a couple of festive drinks on the way home. The sleigh will be having it's final outing and is loaded with smutty and respectable goodies.
Enjoy your Christmases.    ( I was still at target weight this morning but i'm going to totally go off the rails for the next 2 weeks).    See you soon.  xxx

" That card" again and a catasrtophe.

Evening all. What a day had yesterday. I was glad to get to work for a rest, lol.
My boss is a bit bah humbug about Christmas, or at least he pretends to be. I don't think he'd be too chuffed if  mum and dad said OK we'll cancel it then, no pressies this year. I thought i'd recycle a card design i used a couple of weeks back and make a version of  it for him.
His name is Patrick but everyone calls him Pasta. Hopefully it might raise a glimmer of a smile, lol. Another case of having to take the pic in electric light because suddenly it was dark.I had been too preoccupied to notice the light fading. My heating went off, my bathroom and kitchen sink pipes were frozen all day, and i wrapped about 70 stocking filler gifts. Hubby came home to " fiddle" with the heating and one of the pipes spewed water every where. Of course the pipe was in a cupboard full of junk which had to be pulled out fast. Managed to stop it and get the heating back on but the engineer is coming out tomorrow as the pipework has been done wrong. Glad we are renting as we would cop for the bill otherwise. And most of the contents of the cupboard is now in the bin where it belongs.
Things can only get better................................

The best aroma ever.

You know when you supposed to be gift wrapping card making etc and you suddenly find yourself blog hopping and finding yourself getting further and further away from home and loving it? Well i found this site called Stone Gable. It is written by a lady who does lots of entertaining with lots of menus and table settings. The post which particularly interested me was this one.
This is a pic from Stone Gable blog. and HERE  is the link for this Christmas pot pourri Recipe. As Yvonne says don't leave this unattended on a hob. Remember a few years ago it was the in thing to have balti dishes on stands with tea lights underneath like these.

I used to work at Culpeper the Herbalist and we used to sell these Balti dishes. We also used to sell a "bestseller Christmas spice oil" and this recipe gives an exact replica of that aroma before the present owner messed about with it. It is simmering away on my coffee table now and it takes me back. It is gorgeous. The best substitute if you have no simmering dish is to wrap the ingredients in some kitchen towel and stuff behind a radiator. Or bring to a simmer on the stove and switch off. So Christmassey, nothing like the stuff you get in shops in the form of candles and "oils". Omit the star anise if you have to, it wont make a huge difference. Thank you so much Yvonne. xx

Another digi freebie.

What a horrible day it was yesterday. I was so glad i went out on Wednesday and finished (?) my Christmas shopping. So i stayed in and churned out another load of bags of chocolate t*ts and reindeer s**t for when i take the sleigh out on Saturday.
I also made my last few cards which is a massive relief. Here's the one i made for the 2 mums using a free digital frame from HERE. It is part of a set.

I had actually written them and a couple of others and put them in envelopes before i realised i hadn't taken any pics. It was dark so i had to use my craft lamp which isn't ideal for photos, it doesn't look as stark in the flesh. The mice and the greeting are both Penny Black. The holly was made with an X Cut Botanicals punch. I coloured some pearls with my promarkers for the berries. It doesn't show in the picture but i've added a bit of chalk around the frame.
Time to get myself off to work now, thanks fo looking.  Di.xx ( PS, Sorry i haven't been commenting on peoples blogs much this week as time is short but i'll be a better blogging buddy when i've got everything sorted.xx).

Target weight 9st 2lb. Today's weight 9st 2lb, only by the skin of my teeth though. I imagine it's going to go up quite a bit from now until January but at least i know i can get it off again.

Wednesday 15 December 2010

Another Meljens Freebie.

What would i do without these freebies. Frankly i'm bored with my existing Christmas stamps and when i got an order for 6 cards i was so glad of these freebies. I've printed sheets of these and others from Meljens ready to colour for next year.
This holly stamp can be found at Meljens HERE. So handy and so easy to colour. Thank you Melissa.
2 cards made in next to no time in the little time i've got. I've been making choc gifts until they come out of my ears, i didn't expect people to be wanting them on such a scale, lesson learned for next year, lol. In the meantime my sleigh has been out Saturday and last night. A friend of ours won a meal for 2 in a raffle at a local pub and gave it to us for Christmas and we went last night. We were a bit apprehensive as it is a pub we don't normally go to but i must admit it's improved somewhat since we last went and we enjoyed our meal.
There is light at the end of the tunnel with the Christmas shopping and the wrapping is getting done. Poor Speedy is going on Sunday morning to do his annual shopping for one person......bless....... i feel so sorry for him,....NOT !

Sunday 12 December 2010

Chutney Gift.

Real quickie post and a quickie gift as i need to get wrapping up and writing my cards( pet hate). There is absolutely nothing crafty or skillful going on with this one. Just an idea for jazzing up a couple of jars of chutney.
Just a bit of cello, a bit of ribbon and a tag. Cheap stocking filler, as Gordon Ramsay would say, "done".
Right, ...........off to wrap.    Thanks for stopping by.   Di.xx

Meljens freebie snowman.

I've got an order for 6 personalised Christmas cards. It didn't fill me with glee but i've managed to get them done over the last two days. I've kept them fairly simple with my SOS layouts and some free digi stamps from Meljens Designs. The first is a snowman which can be found HERE. I downloaded it then added the greeting.
This one's for a little boy of 4. I love this snowman so much i've printed out 6 sheets of 6 images, plus a few other designs, and am in the process of colouring them all ready for next year (yes, next year) while i'm still aware of what it's like not to be prepared for last minute requests. I think the paper is either Dovecraft or Papermania. It's quite old and i've lost the cover.
I added some stickles and a bit of 3d glaze to the carrot. I had to photograph them all last night in electric light as i have to take them into work today.

Target weight, 9st 2lb. Todays weight, 9st 2lb. Stop right there missus !!. This cold weather has been making me want to eat roast dinners and such like, lol.  I could easily blame the staff night out last saturday but thats not all of it.

Thursday 9 December 2010

Off my Trolley !!

Just a quickie post. Yes it's the silly season again and this is what happens in Chester every year 2 weeks before Christmas. My sleigh comes out !!
Yes, i know i'm barkin' mad. Always have been, always will be. In fact i hope i'm really eccentric when i'm old, lol. My sleigh is all ready for it's debut on Saturday , it goes to all the dimly lit pubs after i finish work and people are asking where it is already. A couple of days before Christmas and Christmas eve i always have a few little gifts in there for anyone who i take a shine to. There will be a bit of Christmas smut in there this year along with the good clean stuff. The lights are battery operated and i always use rechargeable but they last about 4 hours. Marvelous darlings.......................

Wednesday 8 December 2010

Pink Christmas Card.

Back to the Christmas cards for a few days as i've had a few orders.
This one's going to Canada for a little girl and the request was for either penguins or polar bears.I trawled Google images for about an hour looking for line drawings before i remembered i had this stamp. It's by Inca Stamps. The gingham paper paper is from a forever friends pad and the other is by Papermania. I finished it with a few peel offs and some ice stickles which always looks blue in my photos. This was done in the electric light which makes it worse.
I managed to get out and do a bit more Christmas shopping today. If i can get a bit more tomorrow i'll feel a lot better. I don't drive so the biggest problem is carrying it. There's no way i'm going shopping with Speedy in tow either, lol.

Sunday 5 December 2010

Hot choc gifts.

Hello everyone, how are you today then? There's a bit of a heatwave going on here in Chester, it's 4 degrees above freezing !
We had our staff party last night and a good time was had by all. I think i'm going to have to sit on the fat step for the rest of the week after all the food and drink. Never mind, it was well worth it.

I've made some stocking fillers for young lads. Never easy to please are they. I like the snowman soup gifts everyone makes this time of year but i think a young lad might think them a bit too girly so this is what i came up with.
The boxes are are 3" wide, 2" deep, and 3" high, and the cup stamp is by Inkadinkado. I used bown ink to stamp them out , then used the same ink to ink the edges. The tag stamp is from a Papermania clear set.
The cello bags are the size used for 4"x6" cards. I have put a Cadbury's drinking chocolate sachet at the back and a Maltesers and a Galaxy one at the front with a candy cane and folded the spare bit of bag to the back. The mini marshmallows were from Tesco's baking section and are in pretzel bags from Hobbycraft but you could use the bags for tall slim cards. I secured the ribbon with a bit of double sided tape at the bottom of the box to stop it slipping off. Well, they've got 2 chances. They can like 'em or lump 'em, lol.
I'm going to do a bit of colouring now while there's still some nice bright natural light.  See you soon. xx

Friday 3 December 2010

Well chuffed with this one.

I decided to be very brave yesterday and slide my way into town to do a bit of festive shopping. It was actually OK once i was out of the side roads. I ambled around for ages looking for bloke stuff but gave up for now as i don't want to fall into the "toiletries" trap again. I decided to think a bit harder and try again next week. I managed to get a few things for the girls though. I'd already bought our new daughter in law a massive cookery book and decided some herbs and spices might be a nice addition. I bought Tesco's own brand as i like the square jars and they are just as good as the more expensive ones. I got home and had a play and how cool is this?
I didn't want to wrap them up just as they were so i made a box base. A bit of a faff getting the measurements right but then it was a doddle. The box is made from a 12" x12" DCWV glitter card stack, A4 was too narrow.I placed the jars in position and measured the width and the length, then added an inch and a half on each side for the depth,(I used a bit of wallpaper to work it out on). I stuck a piece of heavyweight card into the base for extra strength. The cost of the herbs and spices was £4.15. I used to work for Culpeper The Herbalist before they changed all their packaging and all the gift sets were hand done by us girlies. We used to use shrink wrap and a heat gun and we were at it all day around Christmas. We used to tell people we were the best female wrap artists in the country, lol.
They changed to factory packed sets and they looked awful, the stuff was rolling around in the boxes. The whole place went downhill so i left , but not without a souvenir half roll of redundant cellophane, and a few basic skills in how to make a few bits and bobs into a gift set. Now i've taken a trip down memory lane i'll probably spend the rest of the year looking for "gift set" stuff.
It's ok to show pressies on here as the only person who looks is my sister so i won't be spoiling any surprises.
I must admit I cheated and drafted this post last night as i knew it was a long one.
Thanks for visiting. xx

Target weight 9st 2lb, todays weight 9st 1lb.

What? No Christmas?

Monday was my day off and as it looked very slippery underfoot i decided not to venture out. I thought i'd take a tiny break from Christmas stuff before i go into mass production of the gift samples i've been showing on here. I was decidedly short of men's birthday cards and with a few birthdays on the horizon  i made two.
The papers are Papermania, they seem to last forever.  The Stamp is by Art Impressions from Sir Stampalot.  The leaves were done with an X.Cut Botanicals punch which comes in handy as i don't have many masculine embellishments.
Here is the second one which i like better for some reason. The little sentiment was printed from my computer. I like this little chap as i can think of a few more things he could be standing there saying. I've jotted them down for future use. One thing i have bought last week is an A4 day to a page diary to put my ideas for next year into. A sort of card makers year book. I will add little made up ditties, colour swatches wish lists and borrowed ideas with web/blog addies to give credit to, plus sketches and projects for each month. This will be almost as absorbing as the card making itself. It's still very slippery out so i think i'll be confined to barracks again today.  It's a hard life........................

Naughty Nanny McSpeed !!

Before you shoot me down in flames, I'm not really a naughty grandmother and i wouldn't dream of doing this if little Michael could read, but i couldn't resist as he's only 4 months old. I know his mum and dad have the same sense of humour as me so this is what iv'e done.
Once i got the idea in my head it just wouldn't leave me alone, lol. I'm sending it through the post and putting " to mummy and daddy, love from Michael" inside. I don't know what the other two grandmothers will say but i don't really care. The image was a download i got ages ago but i don't know where from as i've only recently been taking note.  Of course, a sentiment like that could only come from my computer !
I got home yesterday to find that Speedy had put the Christmas tree up!!!!! He hadn't decorated it of course as that's womens work. Although i'm glad he saved me the job i wish he hadn't done it yet. Apart from the cleaning blitz that needed to be done first i'm sure i'll be sick of it by Christmas day. There is Christmas shopping dotted all around the flat as it is and now there's boxes of decorations everywhere. MEN!!!!! Determined little sod he is, i said we'd put it up next weekend but he just wouldn't wait.

Friday 26 November 2010

More little origami boxes.

I'm determined to use up as much Christmas design paper as i can this year so i can have new stuff next year. This pad is the only one i bought this year and it's Papermania Home for Christmas.
The papers are 8"x8" and the little boxes are a bit smaller than 3" square, just the right size for my handmade bracelets with a bit of tissue paper inside.Scroll down to sundays post for a link to instructions. The little toppers are by Crafty Bits and are usually found on those twirly stands. It was nice and light yesterday so i got quite a bit of colouring done including replacement gingerbread man tags with the right spelling, lol. Mothers chocolate mountain is almost dealt with so i'll be able to start on mine next week.
That's all from me for now as i'm off to work.   Di.xx

Target weight 9st 2lb todays weight 9st 0lb.

Gingerbread bags at last.

After finding my gingerbread men in Tesco i've finally been able to make my little bags. Sorry for anyone who missed this free digi from Pink Gem as it was free for a limited time but i think it's still available to buy. There is probably plenty of gingerbread man clipart on Google images.
I added the little caption myself before printing out. There is 30 biscuits in a tub for £1.50 so i put 6 in each bag. They had a long date on them but as i've got one of those bag sealers i sealed them in a smaller bag then put them into a bag for 5"x7" cards. No fancy colouring on the tags as they'll be binned straight away, lol.
I bought 2 tubs of biscuits and have made 10 gifts but i'm going to get more as mother will probably like to give these to her neighbours. OHHHH!! And if you live near Hobbycraft, i went to my local one today and they had a big sale tub. There where lots of stamps for between £1.50 and .£3.50. Quite a few Hero Arts and some Forever Friends and Inkadinkado. They seem to be having a clear out of stamps so maybe they've got new stuff due in. I hope so.
That's it for me, i've got a big pan of  chilli simmering so i'm going to colour in some more gingerbread men until Speedy comes home.       See you soon.   Di,xx

Edit, i've just had a message from Shaz from Docrafts pointing out my typo for the word exist. Hopefully the peeps who get this first batch won't notice but my next lot will be perfick. Thanks Shaz.

Origami Boxes.

Hello peeps, what time is the rain going to start then? It's very dark and dismal here in Chester as usual on my day off. Still it might brighten up a bit later on.
Meanwhile here's the next stage of my mums chocolate mountain gifts.
These boxes are so easy to make. You can get the instructions at Splitcoast Stampers resources pages HERE. Always remember that your piece of paper for the bottom needs to be slightly smaller than the top. These were made with mums grandsons in mind as the paper (DCWV stack 6) is great for young lads. Believe it or not the design is actually diagonal before folding.

I did the little verse on the computer. A few masculine flowers and leaves and we're done. The chocolate mountain is now a bit smaller, lol.
Right, time to feed Speedy as he is trying to look malnourished. We are just having a bit of crumpet with cheese as we're eating out later.
Oh and guess what........... I've found some mini gingerbread men in Tesco, £1.49 for 30,  they were there all the time but they've moved them to the bottom shelf for some reason.

 Thanks for looking.   Di,xx

Friday 19 November 2010

Nice respectable choccie bags.

My mum can't get about much as she is 90, and lives in a small town with not many non food shops (although there's 3 butchers and a green grocer, lol) and every year she frets about what to get us all for Christmas. We all say just give us a small cash gift and we'll come and show you what we've bought. Understandably she wants to give us a surprise pressie, after all she is a mother and we are still her children. So i go shopping with her and get whatever chocs we can find in her local Aldi and i turn them into gifts. It's still a surprise for me as i don't know which one i'm going to get, lol.
We bought these and a milk chocolate version ( and a shed load of other stuff) so here is the first gifts for decent, law abiding, clean living members of the family. I don't think she'd appreciate the smutty stuff.
There is a link to instructions on THIS POST.  There were 25 chocs in the bag for £1.99 which made 4 bags of 6 as they have quite big wrappers. Why do they always put a spare one in so i have to eat it,lol. The sentiment stamp is from a Docrafts clear set. Still got quite a few chocs to deal with but some truffles are going in these milk cartons as i had some striped card left, i'll just put "Merry Christmas" on the tags.
That's all from me for now as it's time for work.  See you soon,

Friday again, target weight , 9st 2lb.  Todays weight 9st 0lb. I do put about 2-3 pounds on every weekend but it seems to come off by friday with good behaviour.

Wednesday 17 November 2010

Another naughty stocking filler.

Why oh why does it rain all day every time i have a day off and plan to start my Christmas shopping? There's no way i'm going out to struggle with shopping and an umbrella so i've spent the morning getting up to no good in my den, lol. I went to Aldi on monday and spotted these very naughty looking chocs.
You see what i mean? Well i just had to buy some didn't i?  I must admit they don't look quite as good in the flesh (excuse the pun) but they still fitted the plan. All i needed was to think up a little ditty and that only took a glass of red to dream up, and Bob's your uncle !
I thought i'd better blank out the naughty bits so i won't get shouted at. The chocs are a bit lighter than they look in the photo. If you make some of these beware of two things. One, they are covered in cocoa powder and so will anything around you be so put them into the bags in the kitchen. Two, almonds can clearly be seen on the box but they aren't listed in the ingredients. I ate one that was left over and there were definitely bits of almond in it so i've written "contains nuts" on the back of the label. I can't remember how much they were but they were under £2. Not bad for 5 little jokes.
I'm of back into my dark den now for another play.....clean fun this time.

Sunday 14 November 2010

Gingerbread what?!!

I've been looking for some mini gingerbread men for a while. I saw some in M&S in the summer and a gift was born in my head. They were in cello bags and enough to make 2 of the gift ideas. So i went to work on some labels with this free digi image from Pink Gem designs. I went back to buy my gingerbread men to find they had turned into posh little boxes of 9 for Christmas. So i shopped around and found boxes of 30 for £1.40 at Tesco but i had too much to carry and didn't want to crush them. Great, carry on with the tags i thought.
And here they are, all ready to go. So yesterday i went back to Tesco to pick up my men. I was inspecting them to make sure there were no broken ones when it dawned on me that they were actually gingerbread santas and snowmen ! Eek !! Who's air brained idea was that i wonder. So i'm still without men. Someone on the docrafts forum said they had them at Sainsburys so i'll have to make a special trip next week. Meanwhile this is all i've got to show you. Sorry peeps but i'll show you the finished bags as soon as i get my men.
Edit. I've just tested my link and the page no longer exists so i guess the image was available for a limited time. Hopefully some of you may have already grabbed it.

Friday 12 November 2010

Six for the Chix.

What a wild and wet day it was yesterday. I waited all morning for the rain to stop then legged it to Tesco and back before it started again. I got myself plenty of casserole type ingredients so i can top up the freezer for days like these.
I spent the morning in my den . At Christmas i like to give the girlies in the family ( including my 90 years young mother) a little stash of cards. Luckily i have quite a few already made for blog samples throughout this year but i still need to top them up a bit.
This little dress stamp is by Stamps Happen and it is perfect for paper piecing. The illustration on the front of the stamp makes it look like it's a solid colour stamp but it's not , it's an outline.
I used various scraps of paper from my growing mountain. It seems to manufacture itself in the box, lol.
I made 8 of these but 2 were repeats. The little hearts are from Hobbycraft and are made by Papercellar. The cards are 5"x5". The caption was done on the computer before i stamped the image beside it. I used to work in a posh wool shop years ago. We sold angora, cashmere, silk, alpaca and all sorts of lovely textured stuff. Not that "string" they sell these days. My boss always said, " Don't let them just look at it, put it in their hand. To see it is to want it, to touch it is fatal".  He was right and i often think of him now, even if it's only a bar of chocolate i've touched. He was a lovely bloke but he died of a heart attack at 68. These cards are a tribute to him.
I must get off to work now but see you soon and thanks for visiting,  Di,xx

Target weight 9st 2lb.  todays weight 9st 0lb.

Little Christmas pouches.

Evening everyone. Uploading tonight as I've got to work an extra shift tomorrow. My boss is having a well deserved week off. It was his 23rd birthday on Monday, bless him so he's having a week of peace and quiet away from Joe Public.
So anyway, here are the little pouches, AKA diaper or nappy fold pouches.
I did some of these at Easter and HERE is the post with more details and a link to a tutorial. The father Christmases from Aldi  89p for 9 (ok I ate the spare one, lol). The papers are old stash and are 6"x6" square. I didn't have any double sided papers so I glued a contrasting triangle to the top and bottom of the inside before I started folding. The little characters on the front were free with Crafts Beautiful mag last year. They've come in handy for odds and ends and if they are free with any more this year, I'll snap them up. I got the little bags from Craft Creations. I secured the bag to the pouch with a bit of double sided tape. You could add a ribbon and hang these from the tree. They are so easy the kids could make them for teachers gifts.
I think a little glass of wine is in order now.   Thanks for looking, see you soon. Di.xx

Sunday 7 November 2010

Hopefully the last.

I think (hope) this is my last Christmas card for this year apart from Speedy's and the 2 mums. Oh to make an Easter or spring card, lol. Something with flowers or rabbits on it. At least this one has spring colours.
I love this Little Clare's elephant, i sometimes paper piece the umbrella. The leaves are done with an X.Cut
Botanicals embossing punch. I will be spending my Christmas money on more of these. I've got some of the Woodware ones but they are a bit too big. The backing paper is DCWV.

Well, enough about cards for today because i need to go into town to get a frame for this.
Our grandson Michael at 3 months old. Sweet or what?

Friday 5 November 2010

Note card Giftbag.

It took me almost as long to take these photos as it did to make the set yesterday as it was so dull again. I tried in the afternoon then I tried at night with these stupid low energy bulbs even the daylight bulb in my den made them look awful. So apologies again for more naff piccies but I had to do them yesterday as I'm taking the set to work for someone's birthday pressie today.
I did another post about this little bag with more details and a link to instructions HERE. It is made from one sheet of 12"x12" paper. I made my first folds half an inch rather than an inch to make the bag slightly taller I did say in that post that it fits a 5"x5" card but the envies dont fit so it's no good for set but ok as a gift bag with a 5" card and no envie, confused yet? HERE is another link then .
The little note cards are 4"x4". I made 2 of each design and put some envelopes and a little fancy pen with them. For the handles I like to stick some ribbon to strips of card. They need each other, lol. the card for a bit of stiffness and the ribbon for strength. I did the wording on the computer. I learned from Docrafts that if you do each word separately before adding to the page you can use different fonts and move them around , marvellous, there'll be no stopping me now! This is for an 84th birthday for a young lady who likes to frequent the pub opposite the shop i work at. She's about 4ft tall and is Scottish. I call her super gran, lol, she's got one of those hairstyles where they wind long wispy hair around their hand and pin it at he back of the head willy nilly, she makes me titter.
Well I'd best get a move on while I've still got a job to go to.   Love Di.xx

Target weight 9st 2lb, today's weight 9st 1lb. 1lb heavier than last week. The result of lots of lovely scrumpy on Wednesday.

Wednesday 3 November 2010

Quick and easy Chistmas card.

Well what a dull dark day. Not good for colouring or taking photos, so i decided to go for a basic card today. Well i actually made 3 the same but when i tried to photograph them together they just cast shadows on each other, lol.
The stamp is by Penny Black and requires no colouring. The sentiment is Papermania, and i found the bauble embellies when i was sorting out some bits to send to a little girl at Docafts. I hope tomorrow is a better day as i need to make a couple of birthday cards.
I'm off to a beer festival tonight at the local pub. I dread to think what the scales will say on friday but i'm off tomorrow and won't be skimping on the old scrumpy, lol. Oh, and there's going to be food as well, oh dear.
I think i'll just hop on the treadmill for a couple of hours.........................

Sunday 31 October 2010

Lily of the valley Christmas card.

Hello all, i hope you're enjoying your weekend. Another dry day here in Chester so i think we'll be going for a walk into town later. I may be able to kick Speedy into action with his part of the Christmas shopping .Speaking of Christmas, i've made another card. I don't really enjoy making Christmas cards and it really shows in this one, it's sort of bunged together, lol.
The stamp is from Lily of the Valley and along with Papermania Deck the Halls papers and a Penny Black clear set, it is the only stash i've bough for Christmas cards this year as i bought quite a lot last year and need to use it up. The greeting is from a Papermania clear set. The matting and scalloped circle are done in a holly green  but it looks black in the photo. I need to count up my Christmas cards in the hope that i have enough and won't have to make any more and can just play around making gifts.
Thanks for visiting, see you soon. Di.xx

A fowl stocking filler.

Back to the stocking fillers with one for the grown ups again. I'm really enjoying dreaming up these naughty ideas. I think this is the outcome of going to a strict all girls school, lol.

These little bags began with a trawl of Google images where i found the turkey. You can get it HERE. I downloaded it to Picasa and added the text. These projects aren't really in need of great colouring efforts, in fact if you're short of time there's plenty of turkey clip art available already coloured in. My recipients aren't likely to actually use the stuffing mix so i bought Tesco basics at 15p for enough for 2 bags. I made 8 bags for the bargain price of 60p!
Here's a close up. The bags are the ones i use for my 6"x4" cards. I haven't made a 6"x4" card for ages as i'm much more comfortable with square ones for some reason. I can't wait to start dishing these out, child as i am,lol. The local butcher is getting one along with the chef from the local pub. The rest will go to friends  and family.
Off to work now , see you soon.    Di.xx

Target weight 9st 2lb. Today's weight 9st.0lb.

Happy new home.

Speedy's eldest son Simon has given us the fantastic news that he's bought a house. He's been living with his ex girlfriend for about 7 years. They are still really good mates but when they decided to call it a day he wasn't earning enough money so they became housemates. Simon has since had quite a few promotions and now is the time to buy himself a few bricks.
Completion date is this weekend so as soon as we hear confirmation i'll put this card through his letterbox as i pass the house on the way to work. As you've probably guessed it needs a bit of DIY. The sandpaper effect backing paper is DCWV and i found a bit of K&CO "life's journey" ruler paper in my scraps.
The image is from the Papermania "it's a mans world" clear set. After taking the photo i chalked around him in grey as i decided he didn't look mucky enough. The sentiment is done on the computer.
I'm off today and tomorrow so it's a bit of housework, a bit of Christmas shopping and i've had a couple more stocking filler ideas to work on.     See you soon with the results.  Di.xx

Reindeer card.

No gifty things today but staying with the christmas theme. I bought a set of D'arcies stamps last year and when i was tidying some of my mess i found a sheet of these reindeer already coloured in. They were done with watercolour pencils as i didn't have my promarkers then. So i thought i'd better turn them into finished cards otherwise they'll hang around for another year. Here's the first one.
The larger backing paper is DCVW stack 6 and the smaller ones are either Papermania or Dovecraft. They are also from last year in the days before my blog when i could chuck the packaging away with gay abandon.
A couple of punched flowers (where would we be without these) added a bit of dimension and a bit of stickles sparkled it up a bit.
Well, there's plenty of sunlight shining into my living room so i'm giong to thread up a few beads while i can see the holes. Enjoy your sunday. Di.xx

In a jam.

Another gift for those awkward people, mainly men but also perhaps an elderly relative or neighbour. I was browsing the "posh" jars in M&S and there was lots of potential for this gift. Cooks ingredients like pesto etc, chutneys and even everyday redcurrant jelly and horseradish sauce.I chose these two jams but i'll be heading back there soon.

It was a bit of a fiddle getting the box the right size but i used cheap A4 paper till i got it right. I stood the jars on it and drew the base size then added two and a half inches to each side for the height. It still wasn't right first time but i got there in the end.
A word of advice, use the thickest card you can get your hands on for this size jar. Mine is medium to heavyweight but could do with being a bit stronger. Perhaps another card matting layer under the paper ( Papermania home for christmas) would be an idea for next time. I glued a piece of card inside the base too. Then i realised the jars needed to be wrapped together in cellophane to keep them inside the box, luckily i had some in. The tag stamp is from a Papermania clear set and the ribbon was from Abakhan. These boxes can be used for all sorts, two bubble baths, boxes of posh cookies as long as they're quite dumpy boxes, rolled up socks, in fact two of anything. once you've worked out the size they are quite simple. Leave a comment if you've any brainwaves for contents.
Thanks for looking, see you soon . Di.xx

More festive smut.

Hello everyone, i'm back with another smutty gift idea for the men.I saw these Tesco own brand chocolate baubles, and i thought "hmmm, smut opportunity". So i bought some and made up a little poem., which i printed out in Hello Sark font size 14.
I used the bags i use for my 4"x6" cards again. You get 8 chocs but 2 of them are bell shaped so i had to eat them, lol.

I hate photographing anything red. I've tried to tweek the saturation with picassa but without success. Never mind here's a close up of the poem.
These will go out just before Christmas when all the men are grumbling about having to help put the deccies up before they can go to the pub, lol. Bless 'em. I went to the docs this morning. There's a B &M next door and i had a quick look. They had smarties balls and Cadbury white chocolate ones but i was heading into town and didn't want to carry any extra shopping. Still, there's always tomorrow..........

EDIT, excuse me while i fiddle about with my blog, i didn't like that halloween background,it was too dark and my pics were too small. I may stop playing around eventually, lol.

Simple gift box.

I've been to The Papermill shop at Cheshire Oaks this morning. I read on the Docrafts forum that they were closing down so Speedy was roped into taking me there to stock up. There weren't many colours left in the card but at least I've got plenty of white now.
When i got back the sunshine had gone and it was dull as dull could be. I took 61 photos of this box and still couldn't get a decent one so had to settle for this one. It's made with ribbon and a gift tag from Wilkinson's. If you fancy making one I'd advise looking for better tags elsewhere as the glitter is very loose and got everywhere, you get what you pay for i suppose.
Here are the offending tags, the fact that the bag is full of glitter should have put me off, lol. The ribbon is fine though.
I punched a bigger hole and added another one opposite and threaded the ribbon through. I put a couple of 3d foam pads under the tag to keep it in place. I added a few peel off corners in gold to match the tag. I don't yet know what will go in it but the colour suggests something Cadbury's, perhaps a snowman soup kit. The box measures five and a half inches square and is one inch deep. I made the bottom with gold mirror card.    Thanks for visiting.  Di.xx
